Self Discoveries: six things you don’t want to miss at Selfridges this week

Welcome to Self Discoveries – our round-up of extraordinary happenings across Selfridges’ four stores. From a walking piano mat (especially for all you Big fans out there) in the toy department at Selfridges London, to meeting Santa himself at Selfridges Manchester Trafford, here are the top things not to miss at Selfridges.

Now booking: Brasserie of Light – Selfridges London

London’s ultimate destination restaurant and bar, Brasserie of Light (from the creators of the UK’s most famous – and fabulous – restaurants, Caprice), is now open for business in our new Duke Street façade. With its Insta-worthy dishes (spaghetti lobster followed by Pegasus Pie with a yuzu coconut cloud, anyone?), mouth-watering cocktail menu, and a gigantic crystal Pegasus created by Damien Hirst, no less – this is one of the most sought-after tables in town.

Tickled pink at the Gucci Corner Shop – Selfridges London

Put on your rose-tinted glasses and take a look around Gucci’s all-pink takeover of The Corner Shop at Selfridges London (running from 5 November - 6 January). From the lush bubblegum-pink carpet to velvet banquettes and glittering curtains, this tripped-out space will showcase Gucci’s latest accessories collection (including exclusive-to-Selfridges pieces) – think psychedelic bags, jewel-embellished trainers and glittering necklaces. Bring on the bling, Gucci style.

Meet By Terry (our latest beauty crush) – Manchester Trafford and London

Browse By Terry's iconic, skin-loving products and get creative at its exclusive Palette Factory, where you can design and make your own palette – choosing textures, colours and even toppings (ie: shimmer) – before pressing together and popping into a personalised, engraved palette. We’ll be first in line.

Try out the dancing piano mat – Toyshop on 4 at Selfridges London

Childhood obsession with the piano mat in the Tom Hanks film, Big (yep, us too)? Well, consider this your fairy godmother moment – because FAO Schwarz’s giant piano floor mat is available to buy in our Toyshop department (alongside a heap of other toys from the famous US brand). Perfect for kids small and big (that’s us, by the way), it’s time to brush up on your ‘Chopsticks’ (and floor slides).

A gift for Santa (hint: it's better than mince pies) – Selfridges Manchester Trafford

How to make doubly sure your child is in Santa’s good books this year? By making him a surprise gift at the Christmas Eve Box Workshop at Manchester Trafford. Fill the box with handmade presents, before enjoying a tasty festive treat and drink. And your child will even get to meet the big man himself – sounds like the perfect pre-Christmas good behaviour bribe to us! The workshops take place on Saturday 1, 8, 15 December, from 1.30PM–3PM.
